Dexter was the father of Natalie Dexter and the head of a cult of witch hunters. He believed his father made the mistake of letting the witch-hunter, Abner Lundberg, help, and that he would not let the same mistake again when his daughter is threatened.
After one of his group detected a signal of someone becoming afflicted by the wtich's curse, he led a group of witch-hunters, Boyle, Elizabeth Dexter and another female to the location. He shot one of the victims, who was deemed too late, and ordered the group to take the convulsing Carnby back to the house, as well as tasking Boyle to watch over Carnby and to shoot him if he threatened or endangered their safety.
He seemed very knowledgeable about the witch and her curse.
He is shown to be very caring for his daughter, and seemed to admire his father, despite not knowing the truth about him. he was shown to be reluctant to ask his father's friend, Abner Lundberg, for help, blaming him for the death of his father. Despite this reluctance, he agreed to let his daughter go and ask him, after she pleaded with him to do so.

Despite his animostity to Abern, he asked him if he could join his witch hunters to help kill the witch, to which the gruff and pessimistic Abner declined.
