Jack in the Dark is the main antagonist of the eponymous Jack in the Dark and a tertiary character in Alone in the Dark 2. He is a jack-in-the-box.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Jack in the Dark was crafted by an unknown Irish craftsman inspired by the infamous pirate One-Eyed Jack. At some point in time he ended up in the Little Toys Shop.

Jack in the Dark[]

It's Halloween, and Grace Saunders is lost in the Big City, where she finds the Little Toys Shop, a toy store by an empty street. She knocks on the door and walks in, the doors slams shut behind her and Jack reveals himself and all the toys in the store come alive. Grace finds a book telling about the toys and the evil Jack-in-the-Box, and a dime, which Grace uses to buy some candies to beat Jack, without success. Jack brings all the toys after her, but Grace manages to follow the stories told in the Toy Book and beat all of them.

Grace goes to the storage room behind the store and finds out that Jack has kidnapped Father Christmas in a plot to destroy Christmas, and that only a witch can defeat the evil Jack-in-the-Dark, and dressed as such, she finds a candy stick and a mirror. Grace gives Jack the stick, and while he savors it, she makes him look in the mirror and Jack closes himself in his box, ashamed of his ugliness.

Alone in the Dark 2[]

At some point in 1924, Jack in the Dark was acquired by One-Eyed Jack. He is found in the loft of the mansion in Hell's Kitchen, lying on top of a box. Edward Carnby gives him a doubloon, and in return, Jack drops a Pompon that he likely snatched from the Clown and kept in his mouth.

After Carnby defeated One-Eyed Jack and his crew, he escaped with Grace, and on his way out of the hollow cave in Hell's Kitchen, One-Eyed Jack tried to kill them both with one final cannon shot, however he misses and buries his ship, The Flying Dutchman, under the collapsing rocks, and in the process the mansion is struck by a lightning, which disintegrates it, likely taking the evil Jack-in-the-Box along with it.

Strategy[]

Jack in the Dark[]

Jack is really easy to defeat. If you give him Sweets, it won't accept them. Instead, you have to give him the Candy Stick and quickly use the mirror. Beware that if you give him the Candy Stick and don't use the mirror in time, it won't work, and you'll end up stuck in the game, so be fast.

Alone in the Dark 2[]

In order to defeat the clown, you need the Pompon, which is acquired by giving a doubloon to Jack, in the far end of one of the rooms in the loft.

Quotes[]

"Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha!"

- Jack laughing.

Trivia[]

  • According to the Toy Book, Jack can only calm his anger with candy.
  • Jack in the Dark is the first character to have his name featured in the title of a game in the series.
