Is it possible that the bathtub monster is based on the Formless Spawn of Tsathoggua? A good portion of visual depictions I could find online resemble the Bathtub Monster's appearance. However, going through the actual source material (http://www.eldritchdark.com/writings/short-stories/208/the-tale-of-satampra-zeiros) describes the spawn as having eyes and no teeth. The only thing that definitively points to formless spawn as a possible inspiration is the fact that they lie in a basin and viciously guard said tub. Clark Ashton Smith was the author of this story. All I could find in HPL's own writings exists within a single sentence: "But they were not toads like Tsathoggua himself. Far worse—they were amorphous lumps of viscous black slime that took temporary shapes for various purposes." There are reasonable arguments to be made for or against this interpretation.
